Healing Support: Christine Foster's Specialties

PTSD

A condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms include intrusive memories, avoidance of trauma-related stimuli, negative changes in thinking and mood, and changes in physical and emotional reactions.

Depression

Major Depressive Disorder: A mood disorder characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities. It significantly impacts daily functioning and can lead to various emotional and physical problems such as changes in sleep, appetite, and energy levels.

Anxiety

A condition marked by excessive, uncontrollable worry about various aspects of life. People with GAD often experience restlessness, difficulty concentrating, and physical symptoms like muscle tension.

Bipolar Disorder

A mood disorder involving alternating episodes of mania (elevated mood, increased energy) and depression. It can significantly impact a person's energy, activity levels, and ability to carry out day-to-day tasks.

Psychotic Disorders

Psychotic Disorders: A group of serious mental illnesses characterized by disruptions in thinking, perception, and behavior. Features include hallucinations (false sensory experiences), delusions (fixed false beliefs), disorganized thinking and speech, and sometimes negative symptoms like reduced emotional expression. Includes schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, brief psychotic disorder, and related conditions. Early intervention and consistent treatment improve outcomes.

LGBTQAI2+

LGBTQIA2S+: A diverse community including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual, and two-spirit individuals, plus others with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Gender dysphoria, common in transgender and gender-diverse individuals, involves significant distress from misalignment between assigned sex and gender identity. Gender-affirming care has been shown to significantly improve mental health outcomes.

BIPOC

Black, Indigenous, and People of Color face unique mental health challenges shaped by historical trauma, systemic racism, discrimination, and cultural barriers to care. These communities often experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance use disorders, while facing reduced access to culturally competent mental healthcare and greater stigma around seeking treatment. Addressing these disparities requires systemic changes and cultural competency in mental health services.

Women

Women's Mental Health: Mental health conditions often present differently in women due to biological factors (hormones, reproductive cycles), social pressures, and lived experiences. Women experience higher rates of depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and PTSD, often influenced by factors like gender-based violence, societal expectations, and reproductive events (menstruation, pregnancy, menopause). Conditions may be complicated by unique stressors like work-life balance, caregiving responsibilities, and gender discrimination.
